Chapter 165: Qingniu’s Lie (Part Three)
Theoretically, it seemed like this small tailor shop wouldn’t make more money compared to Gold Essence Shop in Fangu, but Da Quan believed that Fang Jie was going to make a ton of money here.
Qi Lin wanted to walk to the shop, but Da Quan who didn’t seem to have a clear idea about money was too lazy to walk. They waited for a trans-city horse-drawn carriage.
Da Quan was a strange person. He looked like a disheveled beggar, but he had some strange habits. He never washed clothes and never cooked, but he wasn’t stingy at spending money.
This dirty guy always called himself an aristocrat, and he said that he looked like a gongzi in his leather robe that he didn’t even wash in the summer.
After the two of them got into a trans-city horse-drawn carriage, they arrived at East 23rd Street in about one hour.
The door of the shop was closed, and the husband and wife who were selling hot noodle soup and steamed buns probably closed their joint early today due to the heat.
Da Quan was slightly disappointed since he wanted to eat those steamed buns. However, many new shops seemed to have opened on the street.
After pushing open the door, Da Quan walked into the shop and shouted, “How come I don’t hear any work being done? You were hired since Boss trusts you! You are being paid the highest salary, your food is the best, and your living condition is great. In fact, no one even supervises you. Aren’t you ashamed of slacking off?”
However, no one responded.
Da Quan was surprised and signaled Qi Lin.
The mountain-like Qi Lin nodded. He picked up a wooden stick used to block the door at night and walked upstairs. Da Quan climbed a pillar and got onto the second floor as well.
One left and one right, the two of them approached the room on the second floor where the tailors lived.
When they got close, the door opened and surprised Da Quan and Qi Lin.
The two of them looked at each other before charging in.
They were surprised by what they saw.
A fatty in a black daoist robe was squatting on the ground, panting. He wiped the sweat on his forehead with his sleeve and looked at Da Quan and Qi Lin in displeasure.
“Fang Jie was blind when he picked you guys to watch after his shop.” The young daoist wiped his sweat and said, “I have waited here for a while. If you two didn’t come, I would need to sneak into Gold-Sharing Duke’s residence.”
Da Quan looked at this person and heaved a sigh of relief. He pointed at the tailors who were tied up and asked, “Mr. Xiang, what are you doing?”
Those tailors’ mouths were stuffed, and they tried to make noises while looking at Da Quan for help.
“These few guys sure can cause havoc. I only tied them after sweating a ton. I told them that I’m their boss’ friend, but they didn’t believe me. They said that I’m either a thief or a scammer. I’m in a spiritual master’s robe; do I look like a scammer? I could only tie them up to stop them from making noises.”
“Huh?” After saying that, Xiang Qingniu asked, “How come one person is missing? Where is Fang Jie’s pretty girl?”
Da Quan didn’t react in time and asked subconsciously, “What happened?”
Xiang Qingniu looked around and closed the door. Then, he pulled Da Quan and Qi Lin to another room and whispered, “The royal guards are all around this place. I won’t tell you much, but you three should sneak out of Gold-Sharing Duke’s residence and come to my daoist temple. I will hide you three somewhere and try to get you out of Chang’an by tomorrow morning.”
Then, he took out a piece of cloth that was soaked by sweat and passed it to Da Quan. “Something happened to Fang Jie.”
“Huh?” Qi Lin was surprised and asked, “What happened to him?”
Xiang Qingniu was reminded by Qiu Yu before he came here, so he didn’t want to tell them the truth. He couldn’t think of a good lie, so he stared at Qi Lin in his eyes and said, “Fang Jie peeked at royal maids bathing, and the Emperor was enraged. Fang Jie asked me to get you guys out of Chang’an; you guys can come back after this is over!”
Da Quan asked after a moment of silence, “Do you think I will believe that?”
Xiang Qingniu wiped his sweat and sighed, “Damn, I don’t even believe it.”
