For some reason, Fang Jie felt like Tai Chi Palace was drastically different in winter compared to summer.

It was early summer when he came here for the first time, and all the colorful plants added to its charm, making the giant palace look lively. In the winter, Tai Chi Palace looked solemn and deadly.

Although the Emperor didn’t sleep, he still had to host the morning meeting. Compared to the previous emperor who frequently halted morning meetings to rest, the diligence of Heaven-Bless Emperor Yang Yi was shocking. Regardless of the weather, not a single morning meeting was canceled in more than ten years. If the Queen didn’t dissuade him, he would have hosted daily evening meetings as well.

He seemed tireless like a robot.

The people who the Emperor wanted to see waited in a building not far away from East Warmth Chamber. Compared to the magnificent Tai Chi Palace, this place seemed like a dirty hill.

Out of the three rooms, two were for officials to rest in, and the last one was for eunuchs to rest in.

All the big officials were inside the palace, and the people waiting here were either officials from other regions or those who had noble titles but no real power.

When Fang Jie walked through the door, he greeted everyone. Seeing that he wasn’t wearing an official’s uniform, many looked at him in disdain. Not everyone could recognize the uniform of the Martial Arts Academy.

Fang Jie sat down at a corner and stayed away from those who bragged about themselves either directly or indirectly.

Five other people were waiting in the room, and they sat on chairs. Therefore, Fang Jie who sat on the edge of the heatable-brick bed in the room looked out of place. Others looked at him like an idiot, wondering why he chose not to sit on chairs.

However, Fang Jie ignored them. He took off his shoes and sat on the heatable brick bed while leaning his back against the wall.

Fang Jie’s sitting posture looked improper, making others look down at him even more. However, Fang Jie almost moaned since it felt great on the hot bed.

There was a short desk on the heatable brick bed. It had several plates of dry fruits, one pot of tea, and several cups. Others didn’t touch these things; perhaps they thought it was disrespectful to eat right now when the Emperor was about to see them.

Everyone looked at Fang Jie, and the room turned quiet. Soon, they all looked away with contempt on their faces, ignoring this bumpkin who didn’t know much. They went back to chatting about their ancestors’ achievements and their reputation in their regions.

Creak!

While these people chatted, a noise sounded. They looked at that young man on the bed and was surprised to find that he pulled the short table to his side. Then, he poured himself a cup of tea and enjoyed the dry fruits.

So rude!

Others glared at Fang Jie as if they were looking at their lousy servants.

However, since they believed that they were superior, they wouldn’t bother to talk to this young man in a cotton robe. After cursing in a low voice, they went back to chatting.

Soon, they discovered that they couldn’t talk. This young man placed some roasted nuts on the table and used his thumb to crack the hard shells.

The cracking noises were annoying to these people, and they looked at each other, seeming to dislike this young man at the same time. They stopped chatting and stared at this young man together with anger, wanting him to notice.
