Chapter 213: Worries (Part Three)
He saw this gentle figure as an elder. Although Wu Yidao kept a distance between him and Fang Jie by asking Fang Jie to pay rent, Fang Jie knew that he couldn’t have reached his current height without Wu Yidao’s help.
Also, Fang Jie now realized why Wu Yidao paid so much attention to trivial matters. He was drawing a clear line between him and Fang Jie.
If something terrible happened to Wu Yidao, Fang Jie couldn’t get away after staying in his residence.
By charging rent, Wu Yidao could say that this was all business, and Fang Jie would be removed from the disastrous situation.
If this hypothesis was true, it meant that Wu Yidao knew what situation he had to face when he met Fang Jie.
Therefore, Fang Jie felt even sadder.
Wu Yidao helped him earnestly and even thought of a way to keep him out of trouble. Not many people in the world had this level of intelligence.
Even though Wu Yidao was so smart, he couldn’t get away from the Emperor. This was Great Sui, and the Emperor was the god!
“What do you want to say? How come you are all shy in less than a year?” Wu Yidao asked with a smile while eating.
He seemed to have a great appetite. Although there was no liquor, and only a few casual dishes were on the table, he was still devouring the food with a bowl of white rice.
Fang Jie took a deep breath and decided not to beat around the bush.
“You can’t keep the Worldwide Trading Company anymore?” he asked while sitting straight and staring into Wu Yidao’s eyes.
Wu Yidao froze for a second, then he shook his head and said, “You aren’t involved. Starting tomorrow, you guys should go back to your own shop.”
Then, he pointed at a wooden box on the table with his chopsticks and said, “That is the deed of your shop; just grab it. I can’t give you many things. With this, you will have a place of your own in Chang’an.”
Fang Jie asked, “There is no way around it?”
Wu Yidao replied with a smile, “I’m surprised that you guessed so much. You sure changed a lot, and you are much smarter compared to when you just entered Chang’an. However, you aren’t smart enough, and many things in your eyes aren’t true. You are only seeing the tip of an iceberg. Although Chang’an is different in your eyes now compared when you just got here, you aren’t seeing enough.”
Wu Yidao quickly finished his bowl of white rice while talking, and Fang Jie reached out his hand, trying to fill the bowl for Wu Yidao.
Wu Yidao ate the last bit of food in his bowl and put down the chopsticks. He said, “I can’t eat more; being 70 percent full is good enough. You can’t go full-in on something; you need a way out.”
Then, he asked Fang Jie, “You are approaching Royal King Yi recently?”
Fang Jie nodded after a moment of silence.
“It is His Majesty’s command?” Wu Yidao asked again.
Fang Jie was surprised that Wu Yidao saw through it, and he nodded with a changing expression.
Wu Yidao laughed, “You don’t have to worry about me; there is nothing you can do. I only gave that shop to you just in case; I might have a place to stay if I lose everything. Of course, I can’t do anything if you don’t want to host me. However, how could those who want to make me yield get their wishes granted so easily? Perhaps they will be stunned in the end.”
He added gently, “Don’t go full in. His Majesty trusts you enough to give you this task, but you aren’t that important. Remember, completing the mission isn’t the no.1 goal. Don’t die.”
Fang Jie nodded and said, “I got it.”
Wu Yidao nodded and said while standing up, “Let’s go out and chat while walking.”
Fang Jie followed Wu Yidao out of the door, and he looked like Wu Yidao’s student or nephew.
The two of them looked like a family.
